Simon chose his Halloween costume this year, and absolutely loved it. He especially enjoyed the dragon on his breastplate and his sword. He liked the helmet, but had a hard time seeing out of it well, so opted to brave the unknown without its protection. Avery was a caterpillar. Amy went as a tired mom, and I went as an unemployed man.

It took about 2 houses for Simon to really get a handle on the concept of it being ok to beg complete strangers for their candy. But after he figured it out he was fearless. He'd even go up to the doors by himself (though we were never far behind). There was one particular door that was a half door (is it called a hutch door?) and the top half was open but the bottom was closed. Simon knocked but it was too faint to be heard, and so he yelled "trick or treat" a couple times and someone came up, only since he's so short they didn't see him over the door the first time they walked by. But he's pretty good at yelling..
It was great fun. Every neighbor was exceptionally kind and friendly.
At one house we were reminding Simon what to say at the door, and after we reminded him Avery said, "Trick or treat". Amy and I were stunned.
We then met our great friends the Garcias for Trunk or Treat at their kids school, and then headed home. Simon counted his treats 5 times. He kept putting them in the bucket, then dumping them out and sorting them. So much fun. He was so happy.
